Match Report: The Glasgow Herald (Courtesy of Steve Bell)

Two quick goals by Jones and Bates midway in the second half gave Leeds victory in the Testimonial Match at Annfield Park for the Stirling-born Billy Bremner

Leeds did not get everything their own way. They were certainly faster on and off the ball, but Stirling in their frequent breakaways showed they had nothing to learn in the art of shooting.

Bremner, Captain of Leeds and Scotland, played quietly throughout but was always in the contest when Leeds, as they did often enough, were defending.

Leeds opened the scoring in twenty-five minutes, with a Bates' goal from a Yorath pass. Stirling, however, deservedly equalisedthrough McMillan in thirty-three minutes from leading-up work from McPhee and Duffin.

Only a minute into the second half Albion took the lead, when McAleer beat the substitute keeper, John Shaw, another Stirling lad whose father was Albion's first trainer. Then, in a show of temper, Steele and Hunter were cautioned and McQueen was booked.

Leeds hit Albion twice with Jones and Bates goals in the sixty-second and sixty-third minutes. Thereafter both teams made several substitutions, and Leeds defending their lead, slowed play down with possession football.
